Willits Serenity Salon and Spa reopens in new, larger location – The Ukiah Daily Journal

As of January 3, Serenity Salon and Spa is open for business in its new location. The sleek yet glamorous space is open and expansive. The salon and spa include a tanning room, massage room, several stylish and comfortable waiting rooms, and an abundance of stations for stylists to work their magic.

Owner and stylist Winter Schlegel said her husband, Matt Schlegel, is a contractor and has completed renovations to the salon. She said he and his team had worked very hard to meet the deadline Winter had given, allowing him to host the grand opening on New Year’s Eve. She said, “We were on the edge.”

Stylist Amber Otis does her hair for guest Isabel Buenrostro. Otis has been with Serenity Salon since it opened in December 2019.

Serenity Salon opened in a different location two years ago with five stylists. Winter explained that the five stylists in the previous location did well and had a good following, encouraging her to expand with more stylists and more services. The new, larger location has 22 stylists offering: nails, facials, eyelash extensions, piercings, micro-blading permanent make-up, body modeling and of course all hair services. The salon’s two massage therapists also offer full body waxing. The nail artist will start at the end of March; all other services are currently offered.

Besides services, Serenity will host a coloring class in May, by Kayluh Stewart, a well-known woman in the industry as part of her national tour. Schlegel said, “This will be the only class in California…I’m very excited.”

Schlegel said of her salon’s success, “It’s very surreal, I’m still in awe. I feel so lucky. She explained that all the stylists at the salon get along very well and that all the women who work there are nice. She said: “It’s important to me, I want girls who are experienced but also very sweet… I sometimes feel like the living room can be intimidating, but I want everyone to feel welcome here.”

The salon logo was designed by Sticker Farmer of Laytonville and reflects Schlegel’s faith with a cross in place of the “T” in Serenity. She explained that she wants to have pieces in the living room that honor her religious beliefs and wants the living room to be a safe sanctuary. His beliefs are also reflected in the treatment of his clients. She explained that as a stylist, she often acts as a therapist and likes her clients to feel safe sharing with her, and her main goal is to make her clients feel cared for and loved.

Stylist Amber Otis has been with Serenity Salon since the start two years ago. She said, “I drive from Ukiah every day because this salon is like no other.” Otis said the salon is a drama-free place to work and Schlegel is very professional but also really cares about the stylists who work there. The group is still continuing its training to be able to offer high quality services and follow the latest trends.

Marketing Manager and Director Ashlynn Dudley said of the show, “It’s always a good vibe when you walk in here; I feel like I leave work every day with a smile on my face and feeling warm because we have so many great people working here.
