Washington Emporium Hosts Grand Reopening of New Store Location | Radio KCII

Ambassadors from the Washington Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting Friday for the relocation of a downtown retail business.

Melanie James, owner of The Emporium, cut the ribbon at its new location at 114 North Iowa Avenue. The Emporium features specially made products from local artists and makers and was previously located on East Main Street. James tells KCII that she had always wanted to own a retail store and sell products that weren’t already available in downtown Washington, and in the past few years her store has grown from one to two spaces. rental, and now the new location she decided to move to last December. James is grateful to the local artisans who contribute to the success of the business: “It was exciting to be a place where the artists can have a permanent place where the public can, like on days like today, interact with them or make custom orders I have many people who receive custom orders.

Emporium products include organic essential oils, loose leaf tea, locally roasted coffee, candles, handicrafts, stained glass, and more. James says she dreams of one day having a coffee bar in the store and doing small batch roasting, but overall she wants to support the local arts community as much as she can, including possibly by organizing courses according to demand.
