Rock and roll icon Chubby Checker will perform at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg next year

Chubby Checker, who popularized the dance of the Twist, and the song of the same title, gives a rare concert next year in St. Petersburg.

Tickets to see Chubby Checker at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Jan. 28 go on sale Friday, Aug. 6 and start at $35.

Luckily, the guy isn’t totally a one-hit wonder, so while most of his setlist will likely be Checker covers, the show won’t be 85 minutes of “The Twist” and its sequel, “Let’s Twist”. Again” on repeat. Over the past few years, Chubby has been writing and recording new music, but nothing has made it as high on the Billboard charts as his early work.

But listen, it’s not every day that a rock and roll came before the Beatles coming to town, much less to occur.

Mike Huckabee will not open the show.
