Portland United v Hamble Club: team news and manager interview
PORTLAND United boss Franklyn Clarke has revealed his side have been asked to set their own goals for this season in anticipation of hosting the Hamble Club tomorrow (3pm).
In their midweek debriefing following the 6-0 loss to leader Horndean, the Portland players set goals that were “in line” with the lofty goals of Clarke and his assistant Sam Poole.
As Portland sings on the same hymn sheet, the Blues now look to 16th-placed Hamble, who sits one place and five points above the Wessex League Premier Division Islanders.
Clarke told Echosport: “We asked them to lead in terms of what they expect from the season and where do we want to end.
“We asked them to set their own goals and where they said they wanted to end up is what me and Sam want.
“To do that, we have to win games like (tomorrow) ahead, especially at home.

“Our home form is good so we will look to continue that way. ”
He added: “We think we’ve covered all the bases before Hamble. They’re right ahead of us in the league, so we’re looking to close that gap. ”
Skipper Ryan McKechnie (knee) is estimated to be two weeks off peak form and compatriot midfielder Josh Williams is serving a one-game suspension.
Goalkeeper Mike Edgar is out, so new signing Brad Smith could fill in between the sticks. New signing Liam Sayers could also feature after scoring a hat-trick for the reserves last time around.
