Picsello is an online manager that streamlines running a photo business
Picsello is a new e-commerce and client relationship manager that aims to help photographers track clients, billing, image hosting and other business details that bog down the most important initial reason in the profession: take photos.
The company positions itself as a way to help photographers turn their photography into a profitable and successful business. It promises an easy-to-use, intuitive platform with business tools, data, and coaching to help photographers become more savvy and confident in handling the unique and creative business challenges they face.
As with most innovations, Picsello started from the idea that “there must be a better solution”. The company was started by veteran photographer Jane Goodrich, who found that many photographers were overwhelmed by the details of business practice, leaving behind the joy of creating the art of photography.
Goodrich wrote an opinion on PetaPixel at the end of last year, arguing that photographers were being exploited more than ever and with the aim of creating a solution rather than just complaining about the problem, she created Picsello.
“After working in the photography business for over a decade, I’ve seen how difficult it is to have a successful business,” she says. “I was determined to create a platform that would make life easier for photographers and help them run a successful, long-term business. Picsello exists to make that happen.
Picsello provides tools for booking, billing, marketing, customer sharing, customer galleries, an online store and practical advice and coaching sessions to make the learning curve of managing a profitable photography business minus a chore. Through the platform, photographers decide what they charge for and manage billing, marketing, sales and upselling of their work.
After three years of research, Picsello has developed a calculator that gives the photographer a precise idea of how to make their activity profitable. The Picsello Smart Profit Calculator combines individual insights with profit advice that calculates sustainable prices to meet any budget.
The company also offers pre-written correspondence and boilerplate contracts that can help those new to the market develop and manage clients with the professionalism of a seasoned veteran. The platform is also built around the mobile nature of the photography business, allowing a photographer to stay connected with clients from anywhere in the world.
Picsello also offers online gallery hosting without limits, giving the photographer a window to the world to upsell and sell their portfolios, all through a no-pressure interface that the company claims will bring the customers again and again. The platform even has a studio manager to book sessions, manage billing, and has what it describes as intuitive posting tools to help navigate the minefield of social media marketing.
The software is available for mobile and desktop and costs $20 per month. There is no cost sharing for anything sold through an online store and Picsello says 100% of all profits go to the photographer.
