New Britain Herald – Wheeler hosting an open day in New Britain with pumpkin decorating, more

NEW BRITAIN – Wheeler will hold an open house at its New Britain Community Health Center on Wednesday, October 26 to celebrate the expansion of its behavioral health services for young people and the renovation of its unfinished space.

From 2-4:30 p.m. there will be pumpkin decorating for the kids, attendance of Wheeler’s new mobile health van, light refreshments, distribution of nutritious products through a partnership with Holcomb Farm for patients, information about Wheeler’s broad continuum of medical and behavioral health care and other services offered through the 40 Hart Street location and site tours.

The expansion of behavioral health services for youth and the renovation of the unfinished space at 40 Hart Street was made possible with $2.1 million in funding from the State of Connecticut. According to Wheeler, Sen. Rick Lopes, an advocate for expanding child services, and other local and state leaders helped facilitate support for the project.

“We are very grateful to Governor Ned Lamont, State Senator Rick Lopes, State Representative Robert Sanchez, State Representative Manny Sanchez and State Representative Peter Tercyak for their leadership in supporting this project. “said Sabrina Trocchi, President and CEO of Wheeler. “It is exciting to realize this vision and provide even more accessible and affordable behavioral health services to children and their families in this city. »

The Wheeler Family Health & Wellness Center in New Britain is a federally qualified health center that has moved across the city and opened at 40 Hart Street in June 2021. This facility serves medically underserved families and economically disadvantaged areas of the city.

Services offered at this location include primary care for adults and children such as pediatric primary care and adult primary care, women’s health care and chronic disease management for asthma, diabetes, hypertension /heart health, HIV, hepatitis and more. They also provide behavioral health services and outpatient services for adults and children, such as individual, family and group outpatient therapies for all ages and intensive outpatient programs.

Announced in April 2022, State Bond Commission funding supported renovations to an unfinished third floor of the center, allowing for increased site safety and efficiency, additional space for outpatient medical and behavioral health services, wards review and more.

The New Britain Family Health and Wellness Center is one of five Community Health Centers in Wheeler.
