Mrs. Moriconi’s Ice Cream to open permanent location in Tatnuck Square in Worcester
Worcester’s Tatnuck Square area is about to get a little nicer.
Ms. Moriconi’s ice cream has found a permanent home in the community after hosting pop-ups across town and at the Sprinkler Factory.
Ms Moriconi’s new home is at 1116 Pleasant St. – an owner of the location, Julia Moriconi, said he fell to his knees by accident.
Many of Ms. Moriconi’s employees participate in the Worcester Technical High School Hospitality Program. Program instructor Chief Betty Casey invited Moriconi to an advisory board meeting about two weeks ago.
During the meeting, Casey discussed his business, On the Rise Baking, located at 1116 Pleasant Street. The building, which is owned by Casey, was vacant.
“We talked about how we would be complementary businesses to each other. Before I knew it, we had the place to do a Thanksgiving Eve pop-up, ”Moriconi said.
After planning the pop-up a week ago, Casey let Moriconi know she can rent the space. Ms. Moriconi moved in shortly after.
“It was a good thing, otherwise I would have run out of ice cream on [Thanksgiving Eve] if I didn’t have all of my freezers there with my inventory, ”Moriconi said.
In early 2020, Moriconi aligned funding for the Small Business Administration and selected a potential location in the Worcester Canal District, but COVID-19 suspended those ambitions.
Since then, Moriconi has been sharing some of the creamiest artisanal ice cream in town through pop-ups this year. While originally living in Sprinkler Factory, Moriconi previously appeared at Shrewsbury’s Farmer’s Market, Redemption Rock Brewing Co., and food truck festivals.
Ms. Moriconi now finally has a permanent home.
“The good people at Tatnuck have definitely made me welcome,” Moriconi said.
