Island Health’s Community Corners location is adding a new health club to its gymnasium. | Ithaca
ITHACA, NY – Island Health and Fitness is reopening its Community Corners location, but with a new addition. The new IGNITE Island Health Club focuses on three fundamental pillars: build, burn and breathe.
“The approach is to make sure members get everything they need for a complete fitness plan,” said program director Stephanie Wright.
Wright said IGNITE is a “gym within a gym” model that adds a premier club to the main fitness center.
“IGNITE is its own brand under Island Health, with highly scheduled and specialized courses,” she said. “It’s very focused and very specific.
Classes are led by personal trainers and expert yoga instructors who also work with physiotherapists to create more comprehensive, science-based workouts. The ‘build’ pillar will be anchored in a high intensity interval training (HIIT) course, while ‘burn’ is a cycling based course and ‘breathe’ is a recovery course for the rest days that occur. focuses on flexibility and mobility training through yoga.
“The classes we teach are for everyone,” Wright said. “It’s to make everyone’s life easier and better. It will be great for anyone who needs to build strength or want to manage their weight. “
She said both beginners and experts alike would find classes suitable for their level, and added that they especially wanted beginners who have never been to a gym to feel welcome.
“The courses are not difficult to do, but they are very effective and functional,” Wright said. “As someone who has worked in the fitness industry, I have found from experience that you need to have a more comprehensive approach. If you’re only doing cardio, weight training, or yoga, you’re going to be missing out on something. We want to make sure that we take care of the whole person.
Wright also said they wanted the practice sessions to feel like part of an experience, so each class has its own lighting scheme, atmosphere and “vibe.”
“We want to make sure our members leave feeling good,” she said. “The cycling course will be like a club atmosphere […] What sets us apart is the atmosphere we took the time to create.
In addition to specialized classes, IGNITE members also have access to the main floor of the gymnasium for personal training.
